Kindle highlights and notes

Dushed stores the highlights and notes that you make in Kindle books. You import them from a text file. Dushed shows each highlight with its book and author.

To import highlights, you need the Pro plan or the trial. On the Free plan, you can still read and export the highlights that you already have. See Pricing.

Import from Kindle Reader with KindleSaver

KindleSaver gets your highlights and notes from the Kindle notebook at read.amazon.com. KindleSaver is a bookmarklet: a browser bookmark that runs a small program on the page that you have open.

  1. In Dushed, open Highlights, then Import / export.
  2. Drag the KindleSaver link to the bookmarks bar of your browser.
  3. Sign in at read.amazon.com.
  4. Open the Kindle notebook and wait until it loads fully.
  5. In your bookmarks bar, select KindleSaver. Your browser downloads a text file.
  6. In Dushed, go to Clipping files and choose the downloaded file. Then select Import.

KindleSaver keeps each note together with its highlight.

Import from a Kindle device

A Kindle device keeps your highlights and notes in a file called My Clippings.txt.

  1. Connect your Kindle to your computer with a USB cable.
  2. Open the Kindle drive, then the documents folder. Find My Clippings.txt.
  3. In Dushed, open Highlights, then Import / export.
  4. In Clipping files, choose the file, then select Import.

You can import the same file again after you read more. Dushed skips the highlights that you already have. Kindle bookmarks have no text, so Dushed does not import them.

Read your highlights

In the menu, open Highlights, then List. Each highlight shows its book, its author, and its page or location.

To see the highlights from one book, choose the book in Filter by book, then select Apply filter. To see all highlights again, choose All books.

Export your highlights

In the menu, open Highlights, then Import / export, then select Export highlights. Dushed downloads dushed_clippings.txt.

This file has the same layout as a Kindle clippings file, so you can import it again. It does not keep the date of each highlight.

Rules for imports

  • You can choose more than one .txt file. Together, the files must not be larger than 30 MB.
  • If Dushed cannot read part of a file, it skips that part and imports the rest.
